The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded a Dh260 million contract for a project to supply, lay and commission a 46km water transmission network in Dubai. The project is expected to take 28 months to complete.
The Dubai utility's continuous spending aims to provide a reliable infrastructure to meet the requirements for development. Dewa aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of water networks to meet the increasing demand and water flow all over Dubai.
"Dewa is seeking to raise its production and operational capacity and increase water flow to meet the increasing demand for water all over Dubai," Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Dewa managing director and chief executive officer, said in a statement on Saturday.
The project includes laying glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) water pipes with different diameters between Dubai Academic City Road, Dubai Bypass Road and Emirates Road, and from Emirates Road along Jebel Ali-Al Hebab reaching Al Qudra Road.
Also, a main pipeline will be extended from Al Lussaily reservoir to the intersection of Al-Ain Road and Jebel Ali-Al Hebab, in addition to other pipelines from Mushrif Station to Al Warqa'a, and along Al Khaleej Road.
"This project will provide water through gravity in emergencies to various areas, and Al Reem Area, and future projects on both sides of Al Qudra Road," added Al Tayer.
