The meeting held at the Dubai Chamber premises on Wednesday, was headed by Hassan Al Hashemi, Director, External Relations, and came as part of Dubai Chamber’s strategy to reinforce two-way communication with all its stakeholders and to play a strategic role of bridging the gap between the private and public sectors.
Al Hashemi informed that during the first eight months of 2011 Dubai Chamber members’ exports and re-exports grew by 17.1% to reach Dh162.1 billion, compared to Dh138.4 billion during the same period last year while the number of Certificates of Origin issued until August this year rose by 8%. He said that this upwards trend is expected to continue through the remaining quarter of 2011.
He also appreciated the contribution of the various Business Councils and Business Groups to the economic growth of Dubai and their commitment to promote Dubai as an international business hub.
The meeting highlighted the various Dubai Chamber initiatives, which are geared towards better serving the 39 Business Councils and 25 Business Groups. The meeting also discussed the newly-launched members’ health insurance scheme as well as major upcoming events in the last quarter of the year.
The representatives of Dubai’s business community voiced their concerns and identified challenges that impinge on the development of their businesses and the overall investment atmosphere due to strict access to credit, diminishing financing options, government fees, and other visa and administrative issues.
