“We are expecting a 20 per cent growth in 2009 compared to the 35 per cent growth registered last year,” Ajai Kumar Dayal, General Manager - Retail and Marketing, Better Life, told Khaleej Times.

Speaking at the launch of a range of television and non-television products from Grundig, Dayal said this year Better Life would be introducing around 25 different products from the German firm.

Better Life, part of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, is a distributor of home appliances in the UAE and has six retail stores across the UAE and Oman.

Without disclosing the exact investment being made to introduce new product range he said: “We are bringing in the latest line of electronic products from the German designers. I can only say that we are investing in a very big way on this.”

According to a recent study, the Middle East consumer electronics and technology market is demonstrating resilience, with a positive growth forecast that retail sales will reach about $40 billion in 2009

Market researchers with the GfK Group say that retail sales of liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma televisions have contributed significantly to the growth of the digital consumer technology sector.

The LCD television market is valued at $4 billion and the group’s monitor for the Middle East’s domestic appliances market anticipates further growth in the region, particularly in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

“We are very pleased to re-enter the UAE market after a gap of few years with an outstanding range of new products which have proven themselves in the European market. We are pleased to continue our association of over 40 years with the Easa Saleh Al Gurg group and Better Life,” said Can Dincer, Sales Director (Global), Grundig.

Grundig was the first company to develop the 100hz techonolgy for television.

The company’s latest range features superior imaging with forward technology pictures and Grundig’s legendary sound. A range of premium LCD televisions will make up the majority of Grundig products available at Better Life stores.
