BankMuscat to move to its own headquarters by middle of 2009

MUSCAT — BankMuscat, Oman's largest bank with assets worth over $10.9 billion and 107 branches said yesterday it would move to its own custom-built headquarters by the middle of next year.

Work on the RO36 million state-of-the-art complex, occupying an area of 32,000 square metres, has just started at the Airport Heights, Seeb, top officials of the bank told a news conference.

"This is a long felt need of the bank," Chief Executive AbdulRazak Ali Issa said, adding that the new premises was designed "to be a landmark building in the Sultanate incorporating the latest technologies, security and conveniences that will accommodate the bank‚s current and future requirements. The building will also reflect our vision and stature of being a leading regional bank."

The bank has entered into a 50-year lease agreement with the Internal Security Service Pension Fund (ISSPF), who will build the new head office complex.

ISSPF has awarded the contract Galfar Engineering and Contracting. The lead architects and consulting engineers to the project are WS Atkins International; the project manager, Mace International Ltd and the IT and Security Consultant, Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM).
