Bahrain offshore bank assets rise

MANAMA Assets of offshore banking units operating in Bahrain jumped to $83.38 billion at the end of 2003 from $58.82 billion in 2002, BMA figures showed on Tuesday.

The bulk of the rise was apparently due to the return to Bahrain of assets worth $30 billion that US financial giant Citibank had withdrawn from the state late in 2002 as a precaution ahead of the US-led invasion of Iraq.
