Chaudhry, who will be based in Muscat, will be responsible for all the company's issues relating to Oman and will report directly to Mike Gavin, executive vice-president (Middle East).

"The company has been active in Oman for more than 30 years. This long standing relationship between BAE Systems and the Sultanate currently includes supporting equipment in service with the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces," said Simon Keith, managing director, Middle East.

Before joining BAE System's Middle East team, Chaudhry served with Britain's diplomatic service. He was posted to the British Embassies in Dubai and Cairo and spent two UK postings covering Iran and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction issues.

"I will work to enhance the long standing strategic partnership we have with the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces, as well as to build on our shared experience to shape new relationships in support of Oman's aspirations to develop its defence and security capabilities," Chaudhry said.
