Rains in UAE: Travellers advised to allow extra time to arrive at airports

Airlines and airports in the UAE issue travel advisories as the country is expected to witness heavy rains in different parts from March 23 to 27

Airports and airlines across the UAE have urged passengers to allow additional time for travel this week due to inclement weather, with some advising arrivals up to four hours before departure.

Dubai Airports said travellers using Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport should plan extra time for their journeys between March 23 and 27, and check flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport.

Sharjah Airport issued a similar advisory, asking passengers to stay updated on flight schedules and confirm details with their carriers in advance.

Emirates airline advised passengers departing from Dubai International to check flight status before travelling and arrive at least two hours before departure during the affected period.

Flydubai also urged passengers to allow extra time, noting that adverse weather may impact operations at Dubai International and affect journeys to and from the airport. The airline recommended confirming bookings, checking baggage allowances, and arriving at least four hours before departure. It added that check-in closes one hour before departure.

Sharjah-based Air Arabia said unstable weather could affect operations at Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah airports, advising passengers to check flight status and allow additional travel time.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways encouraged travellers to monitor the airline’s website for updates and arrive early, citing possible road closures and traffic congestion.

The UAE is expected to experience adverse weather conditions over the coming days, which may cause delays and disruptions to travel.
