Helicopter crashes into sea in India's Andaman, passengers rescued

The helicopter had taken off from Port Blair with two crew members and five passengers on board

A Pawan Hans helicopter carrying seven people, including the crew members, crashed into the sea after it took off from Mayabunder in North and Middle Andaman district on Tuesday morning, PTI reported.

The accident occurred around 9.30 am. All the passengers and the crew members were rescued from the mid-sea. They have been admitted to a hospital in Port Blair, one of the officials told PTI.

“A preliminary inquiry revealed that there was some technical snag, and the pilot made a crash-landing on the sea,” a senior Civil Aviation official said, as quoted by PTI.

A Pawan Hans spokesperson told ANI that the "helicopter experienced a short landing incident near Mayabunder in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The helicopter had taken off from Port Blair with two crew members and five passengers on board. All have been rescued and are safe. No injuries have been reported."

The spokesperson added, "All necessary safety protocols were followed, and authorities ensured the well-being of the crew and passengers."

As per reports, the passengers onboard included three men, one woman, one child, and the two pilots. The rescued passengers, Rajita Devi and her infant, Kamal Ch.

Das, Sipra Saha, and Nambi Amma have been admitted to Dr. RP Hospital, Mayabunder, and are under observation and treatment. The pilots are also safe, said the local authorities.

Authorities are actively assessing the situation, and further details regarding the cause and circumstances of the incident are awaited.

This comes a day after an air ambulance crash in India's Jharkhand killed seven people on Monday evening.
