Flights between the UAE and France via Etihad Airways “are currently operating as scheduled” despite the planned nationwide air traffic controller strike in France, the spokesperson for the Abu Dhabi-based carrier told Khaleej Times on Thursday.

A nationwide air traffic controller strike in France is planned on Thursday and Friday that earlier forced Irish low-cost airline Ryanair cancelling 170 flights.

Etihad Airways, for their part, said they are aware of potential flight disruptions due to planned industrial action at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. “Etihad Airways is closely monitoring the situation,” said the airline spokesperson, assuring: “Etihad Airways flights to and from Paris are currently operating as scheduled.”

Eithad said more information regarding the industrial action will be communicated on etihad.com/flightstatus when available, and customers are advised to ensure they check for the latest information online before they travel.

Meanwhile, the French civil aviation agency, DGAC, on Wednesday asked multiple carriers to reduce flights at Paris airports by 40 per cent on July 4 due to the planned strike. It comes at the start of Europe's summer holidays, one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

In April last year, unions also called for a strike after a breakdown of negotiations on salary increases and other measures in a planned overhaul of France's air traffic control system.
