Thick fog blankets UAE: Some flights delayed at Dubai, Sharjah airports

Visibility dropped to just a few hundred metres in some areas of Dubai and Sharjah

Some Emirates flights at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were delayed due to dense fog on Tuesday morning.
“Heavy fog in Dubai on the morning of February 24 has caused the delay of some Emirates flights arriving and departing at Dubai International Airport,” an Emirates spokesperson said in a statement to Khaleej Times.
Thick fog blanketed parts of the UAE early on Tuesday, disrupting both road and air traffic. Visibility dropped to just a few hundred metres in some areas of Dubai and Sharjah.

Dubai’s flagship carrier advised passengers to check the status of their flights on its website for the latest updates.
“Emirates apologises for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance and will not be compromised,” the statement added.
Flydubai said a few flights were delayed and diverted due to the fog on Tuesday morning.
“The weather conditions in Dubai on February 24 have resulted in select flights being delayed or diverted. We are doing all we can to minimise disruption to our passengers' travel schedules and are coordinating with all relevant stakeholders,” a flydubai spokesperson said in a statement.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority. We apologise for the inconvenience the weather conditions may have caused our passengers,” said the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses at Sharjah Airport reported at least 28 flights were delayed due to the thick fog on Monday, February 23. These were mostly Air Arabia flights, with some routes rescheduled by Indigo and Air India express among other non-local airlines.
