No need to fret over excess baggage as passengers travelling to the UAE by Air India can now carry 40kg of check-in luggage.
Air India chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani, who is in Dubai for the launch of Indore-Dubai and Kolkata-Dubai flights, said the national carrier has raised the baggage limit by 10kg.
"As demanded by the people, Air India will allow passengers to carry 40kg as luggage in the check-in besides the usual 7 kg that the traveller carries as hand baggage," Lohani said during a reception held at the India Club to mark the launch of new flights.
Another Air India official said the additional offer will be implemented on flights operating on Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
"It's 40kgs to start with and 50kgs at a slightly higher price. It will reflect in system for Abu Dhabi flights from Wednesday," he said.
Residents are thrilled at major developments in aviation sector.
"I am thrilled to hear that Air India has increased the baggage limit from 30kgs to 40kgs. Every time at the airport, I feel pained when labourers remove the excess luggage since they've exceeded the limit. They visit once in 2-3 years," said Abu Dhabi-based Aditi Chandan who hails from Mumbai.
"Mumbai being the connecting point to other cities in India this is amazing news for them. For me, I can now take more dates and dry-fruits back home and bring back more sweets made by my mom," Aditi noted.
