Al Habtoor Motors, the distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in the UAE, has announced a recall of more than 4,000 vehicles due to problems with wipers.
The company announced recall of Outlander from 2008 to 2013 models due to front wiper motor and front wiper link ball joint problem.
"We regret to inform that due to inappropriate waterproof structure of the front deck portion, water intrusion from front deck garnish and windshield may cause corrosion of the front wiper motor internal part. In the worst case, the wiper motor may become inoperable.
"Additionally, in the event that water drops down through the back side of the front deck garnish (the body piece between the hood and windshield), the front wiper link ball joint may experience excessive moisture and corrode. If this occurs, the resin case of the ball joint will wear prematurely due to the ball joint corrosion and the wiper link may ultimately separate, causing the windshield wipers to stop operating," it said in a statement.
The company said it would contact customers with affected models to arrange for repairs to be made. In all, 4,030 vehicles have been affected due to this defect.
According to Bill Carter, chief systems and innovation officer at Autodata Middle East, new car sales are to be lower by 15 per cent this year as compared to last year, reaching 260,000. He expects sales growth to remain stagnant next year as well.
