Austrian shares rebound from lows

VIENNA - Share prices on the Austrian stock exchange made up some of earlier lost ground in midday trading Tuesday, following the heavy losses seen the day before in line with stock markets around the world.

Shortly after midday, Vienna’s blue-chip ATX index was showing a loss of 39.13 points or 1.05 percent at 3,673.48 points, after earlier hitting anintraday low of 3,450.29 points.

On Monday, the index had shed 4.7 percent in the wake of the worldwide rout on the stock markets.

Out of the 21 stocks in the ATX, six were in positive territory, with industrial conglomerate A-TEC the biggest loser, shedding 8.24 percent.

Refractories specialist RHI was the biggest gainer after its chairman revealed in a newspaper interview that the company was considering building a 50-million-euro (72-million-dollar) factory in Brazil.
