"A meeting was held to choose the new chairman and the board agreed unanimously to choose me as the new chairman of the JCCI board," Al Turki told media persons.

Twelve of the board's 18 members voted for Al-Turki out of a field of three candidates. Muhammad Al Fadul and Muhammad Jameel also put themselves forward for the position of chairman. The board also named Adbulkhalik Saeed as its latest member to fill Al-Mualimi's vacancy.

According to Mazen Batterji, deputy chief of the JCCI, board members agreed to choose Al Turki as the new chairman with the hope that he will solve the chamber's recent administrative problems. Batterji said Al-Mualimi's resignation should not reflect on the board as a whole, and that the board stands together as it tries to solve its problems.

Al Turki said he will strive to keep the JCCI's future development plans in place. But as chairman, he plans to expand the JCCI's ability to serve its constituents. "The first thing that I am going to do as the new JCCI chairman is to add new committees, since the chamber needs to cooperate more with other chambers of commerce," he said. "I would like to add two or three new investments centres and make some changes in the positions held by the board members," he added.
