Under the regulations of the Ajman Sewer Law, every property owner in the emirate must register their property with the Ajman Sewerage Company and pay a compulsory connection fee.

It is mandatory for more than 9,000 property owners in the emirate to register their properties with the company to be connected to the new sewerage system, said Bob Taylor, general manager, Ajman Sewerage Company. "We are now contacting every property owner in Ajman to ask them to complete a registration form that will ensure their property is connected to the modern sewerage system."

The construction work for the project began last week. The work includes building a main waste and waste water treatment plant on the outskirts of the city, 22 pumping stations (mostly underground) and laying 250 km of pipelines to connect properties to the system.

The Ajman Sewerage (Private) Company Limited was formed in May 2002 following the enactment of the Ajman Sewer Law. It is a joint venture company owned by the Government of Ajman, Thames Water, Black & Veatch and Six Construct. Thames Water and Black & Veatch are leading global players in wastewater services and infrastructure systems. Six Construct, a part of Belgium's Besix is a leading civil and infrastructure constructor. Thames Water Middle East will be the operations and maintenance contractor for the duration of 27.5 years in the build, operate and transfer contract.
