Ajman Free Zone management on expansion spree

DUBAIAjman Free Zone management is considering expanding and consolidating its operation in one area to meet increased demand.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Economic Department and Ajman Zone Authority yesterday placed the cornerstone of the new administration buildings and Free Zone offices.

At the ceremony he said: "We have marked out a strategic plans to expand further and to have more than 1,500 companies operating in Ajman Free Zone in the next few years.

"Other sectors of the economy, including the tourism and petrochemical industries will be looked at very carefully.

"The new premises is one step forward in response to the growing demand for new offices and modern services."

He continued: "By building these new offices we seek to offer business facilities for our clients by providing the latest and most modern set up."

The Dh50 million project will be constructed in two phases, the first of which will be completed by October this year and the second expected to be completed by the end of 2004.

The complex comprises two separate six floor buildings consisting of 300 offices to lease.

Ajman Free Zone has achieved continuing development over the past few years attracting a great number of companies from different parts of the world, with more than 800 companies in industrial, trade and services sectors.

The Zone is considered to be one of the biggest Free Zones in the country contributing in a positive way in the UAE overall economic growth.

Shaikh Ahmed added: "Asian investor are well aware of the facilities we offer and they have shown great interest and enthusiasm to be part of our complex. We received a number of inquires even before we laid the first brick."
