Airblue set to fly to Dubai by mid-August

ABU DHABI — Airblue, Pakistan's newest airline, announced yesterday it will launch services to Dubai from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar by the middle of August.

Services to other UAE airports such as Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will follow in six months, said its top official at a Press launch in Dubai yesterday, newspaper reports said.

The airline also expects to launch up to eight flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in the near future with a fleet expansion, said Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Airblue's Chief Operating Officer.

He said the airline was in talks with both Boeing and Airbus for acquiring up to 10 new medium- and long-range aircraft. "you will see us expanding rapidly within the next four to six months."

Airblue started operations as a private shareholding airline in Pakistan with an equity of Rs1 billion last year.

It expects go public next year with a planned listing on the Karachi Stock Exchange.

With a fleet of three leased new-generation Airbus A320 aircraft, it operates 51 flights a week within Pakistan and claims to have captured a 26 per cent domestic market share.

"We will start our Dubai services with a daily flight between Karachi and Dubai on Pakistan's Independence Day and build it up to a total of 37 weekly flights to the four Pakistani cities," said Abbasi.
