In line with Abu Dhabi's efforts towards sustainable all-round growth, the trade body has prepared a five-point strategy that would form the basis of its action plan to improve its services to the businesses, apart from improving internal efforts to lead by example, said a ten-page ADCCI Sustainability Report on its activities, issued by the trade organisation representing 73,000 businesses in the emirate.

The Director-General of Abu Dhabi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Rashed Al Hameli, while releasing the report, said that his organisation representing the strong private sector, is committed to government's sustainability initiative that has been adopted by ten government agencies and five major companies.

The trade body will focus on its existing services, practices and strategies together with addressing new challenges and opportunities being rolled out by sustainability.

Al Hameli said that the priority areas would be sustainability supporting knowledge, business distinction and excellence, sustainability supporting market and leadership, transparency and accountability and administrative excellence.

The ADCCI Sustainability Report revealed that the number of customers who have availed of the chamber's information service in 2008 hit 9500, while Abu Dhabi On-line Services' users reached 11,202
including investors
and businessmen.

Al Hameli viewed that the establishment of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group or ADSG has come as a shift in management style being adopted by the Abu Dhabi Government. “It is the first time that an organisation has been setup comprising stakeholders drawn from public as well as private sectors to take up the issues of sustainable development,” he said.

Terming it as an indication of how far advantage can be taken of the strong public-private partnership or PPP, the director-general explained.

He said that the ADCCI will continue publishing the Sustainability Report on an annual basis.

Al Hameli said that the ADCCI Sustainability Report on its activities has obtained the highest A rating by the Global Reporting Initiative or GRI, an Amsterdam based organisation that sets standards and guidelines for sustainability reporting.
