The Abu Dhabi Registration Authority (Adra) on Wednesday said it is investigating reports of “unjustified price increases” as part of efforts to promote fair commercial practices and protect consumers.

It added that it is also looking into reports of some firms failing to provide “necessary stock”.

The regulator warned that companies found violating the law will face legal action.

The statement comes as federal and local authorities across the UAE work to ensure the supply of goods and products in the country amid the ongoing regional geopolitical situation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adra – an arm of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) – said it “has initiated an investigation into reports of potential unjustified price increases or failure by certain businesses to provide the necessary stock in recent days.”

It added that it is reviewing these reports to assess compliance with applicable regulations. “If violations are confirmed, the cases will be referred to the competent judicial authorities in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.”

Adra assured investors and residents that it is committed “to maintaining market stability, promoting fair commercial practices, and protecting consumer interests.”

Meanwhile, the UAE’s Ministry of Economy and Tourism said on Wednesday that it had conducted 8,168 inspections between February 28 and March 18, issuing 729 warnings and 216 penalties, with fines ranging from Dh2,000 to Dh200,000.

The inspections were carried out to ensure that traders and sales outlets adhere to consumer protection policies, implement them effectively, and provide a safe and fair shopping environment.

The federal body also monitors markets through its specialised teams, as well as those of local economic development departments.
