A number of HSBC bank customers in the UAE have been overcharged on their card purchases due to a technical glitch, the bank has acknowledged.
Several credit cardholders of HSBC UAE took to social media late last week to complain about the problem.
The bank has now clarified that the excess amount that was deducted from some customers' cards have been refunded and they can check their online accounts now.
"We have identified an issue related to some transactions made on the 2nd of December on HSBC Visa cards. We are in the process of rectifying the issue and we want to assure our affected customers that we will reverse any incorrect amounts including any related fees and charges," the bank said in a tweet earlier.

"We have identified an issue with some transactions being incorrectly billed to our Visa card holders for certain dates. We are working on rectifying the issue and we want to assure our impacted customers that any incorrectly billed amounts will be reversed including any related fees and charges," it said.
The bank said it has reversed the transactions of the UAE customers' Visa debit and credit cards after the technical glitch.
Kunal Malani, regional head of customer for value management at HSBC, said the bank wants its customers to be sure that any customer related fee and charges will be reversed out and they will be able to continue to use HSBC Visa debit and credit cards as they normally do.
"We have arranged to reverse the incorrectly billed amounts over the weekend and are in the process of reversing any related fees and charges in due course," the bank said in a reply to a customer's tweet.
