87pc stalls booked for Idex 2005

ABU DHABI - Around 87 per cent stalls have been booked for the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX), Abu Dhabi's flagship mega event which would be held from February 12-17, 2005, an official said.

IDEX-2005 which would be held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces will incorporate the Gulf Defence Conference which is regarded in the international academic and military circles as a top forum on defence strategies and technologies.

The exhibition and conference is to take place at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition & Conference Centre (ADIEC) and is to be held in cooperation with several UAE government authorities, which will feature companies from all over the world, who will display a wide range of defence related products and services and the latest technologies in this domain.

Apart from the static displays, another exciting series of events to look forward to at IDEX 2005 is the 100,000 square metre purpose built arena for the live demonstration of tracked and wheeled vehicles and a marina for small amphibious naval craft.

In addition, live firing during the day and night will take place at the nearby Maqatra Firing Range, which is capable of allowing weapons with ranges up to 40 kilometres, including artillery and missiles.

As ever, IDEX 2005, will also feature its naval berthing at Mina Zayed Port, where there will be an array of naval vessels berthed.

Already reaching confirmed bookings of 87 per cent of indoor space to date, the outdoor static display area is also nearly fully booked. The General Exhibition Corporation (GEC) is promoting its upcoming International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2005 at a four-day Special Forces Exhibition & Conference-Sofex 2004 which began in Amman, Jordan yesterday.

Over the recent years, Sofex in Jordan has demonstrated its ability to attract a high level of interest and attendance from across the Middle East and North Africa including key political and military decision makers. As a result, IDEX-2005's participation at Sofex is an important competent of our promotional activity of IDEX's next edition, which will take place on 12-17 February 2005', said Mohammed K. Nabhani, Project Manager for IDEX 2005. "We expect substantial interest from potential exhibitors, visitors and media," he said.

The IDEX 2005 team has already participated in several events this year-DefExpo, India; AAC41' 04 Singapore; and DSA'04, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This will be followed by IDEX 2005's participation at HeliExpo, Florida USA; ILA '04 Berlin Germany; Eurosatory, Le Bourget, Paris France, and; Farnborough '04, Farnborough United Kingdom.
