17 Italian companies taking part in Index

DUBAI — Seventeen Italian furniture manufacturers from Matera specialising in upholstered furniture, are participating in the Index Dubai 2005 — the 15th international Middle East furniture, interior design and shopfitting exhibition which began yesterday at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

They are: Natuzzi, Calia Italia, Incanto, Polform, K&L, Nonsolopelle, Euroline, Doimo Sofas, Parisi, La Meteora, Sofaland, Alfatex Italia, Piquattro, Fratelli Cornacchia, Nicoletti, New Interline, and Girardi.

On display is a wide variety of leather, suede and fabric upholstered sofas in modern, classic, contemporary styles produced in sectionals, recliners, fixed and cover removable sofas, armchairs, sofa beds, and living room furniture.

There are companies which produce paddings in polyurethanefoam, polyester fibre and feathers, accessories, component parts, viscoelastic mattresses and pillows, laminated and coated fabrics, and wood frames. One company also deals in logistics.

Dr Ferdinando Fiore, Italian Trade Commissioner in Dubai said that the demand for furniture in the UAE will register a dramatic increase in the future once the huge ongoing construction projects are completed, particularly in Dubai.

He said that Italian furniture enjoys prestige in the UAE. Italy exported $59.8 million furniture to the UAE compared to $55.2 million in 2003.
