"Peddle Thorp/Morgan Architects, one of Australia's largest architectural groups, has just completed the preliminary design for a $1.7 billion Dolphin City project.

The final study for the project will begin next month, while construction activities are expected to commence within five months", said Sami Mikhail an architect associated with the project. The project also features office towers, retail and shopping area, a 75-storey seven-star hotel together with an 18-hole golf course, and a number of residential towers.

"This is going to be a landmark project in the UAE," Mikhail pointed out.

"We are very excited about this project," said Sami Mikhail, Middle East Director at Peddle Thorp/Morgan Architects. "It is going to be one of the largest projects in the UAE," he added.

Projects facilities include a senior citizens residence, where elderly people can relax, interact and receive medical attention. It also includes a diving academy and learning centre, a multi-purpose indoor diving facility that provides visitors with a unique approach towards sea life through multiple electronic museum halls and water-based activities and sports.

Due to be completed by 2009, the Dolphin City project has been conceived on the idea of helping children and their families cope with physical and emotional disabilities.

The unique feature of the hotel and other complexes will be that all the visitors will only be allowed to enter the premises by cable cars.

Peddle Thorp/Morgan Architects, which set up its presence in Abu Dhabi this year, is one of Australasia's three largest architectural groups and one of the top ten worldwide.

The company has already implemented a study for the under construction $90 million Dubai Mall Aquarium, the largest of its kind in the world. It has also won another contract to design a $50 million aquarium in Bahrain, becoming leaders in aquarium design.

The project, being developed by Emirates German Group, a group of investors will receive foreign direct investment (FDI) as Germans will be investing 70-80 per cent of the project outlay.
