West Indies' limited overs legend Dwayne Bravo was on Monday named as the face of 10PL-the World Cup of tennis ball cricket.
The World Cup boasts the highest prize money for tennis ball cricket anywhere in the world and is valued at a total of 250,000 Dirhams.
Bravo will be the face of the tournament in the lead-up to the third edition of the tournament, scheduled to be held from March 8-13. The week-long tournament, will be held like in the first two editions at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. The tournament will be staged under the aegis of the Sharjah Cricket Council, thanks to the able leadership of Waleed Bukhatir.
Bravo has been a white ball specialist for close to a decade and a half. He has been part of the two T20 World Cup wins for West Indies in 2012 and 2016. He was also part of West Indies' 2004 Champions Trophy winning squad as well. Currently, Bravo is a regular on the league circuit around the globe. He recently led Maratha Arabians to the title at the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament.
As the face of the tournament, Bravo will make an appearance on the final day of the tournament at Sharjah. Before that the West Indies legend will attend the launch press conference of the tournament in February.
On his new role, Bravo said: "I am delighted to be the face of the 10PL World Cup of tennis ball cricket tournament. I have learnt a lot of my key tricks that am sure many of the players in the tournament will employ, especially the use of slower ball and yorkers. The tournament therefore promises to be the perfect platform for raw talents to showcase what they are capable. I am really looking forward to this competition."
A total of 16 teams participated in the first two editions of 10PL-World Cup of tennis ball cricket and for this year nearly 40 expressions of interests have already been received by the organisers for an available 20 spots.
This year, the tournament is also expected to attract teams from a number of major corporate houses. Interested teams can register for the tournament by simply emailing register@10pl.net
In the last two editions, in addition to regular tennis ball cricketers, former Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman Zulqarnain Haider, former Sri Lankan Test cricketers Chamara Silva and Thilan Thushara were also seen in action.
