As we reach peak summer heat in the UAE, we look to the luminous glistening that tops our beauty wish list this time of the year: the summer glow. Subtle bronzed skin, golden limbs and the peachy flush that lights up from within are here to stay (as assured to us by runway trends and beauty influencers around the world). And if, like us, you're not a fan of the hot mess created by sun burn and UV-ray damage, here's our easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to nailing the glorious summer glam!
Pack in the moisture
The thumb rule for a healthy glow is to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. The lack of moisture may result in enlargement of pores - which is not a good look for any makeup style. Always stick to a gel-based moisturiser to avoid the sticky residue of cream-based hydrators. For an extra boost, apply a bronze tinted primer under the foundation. Dewy touch-ups are best for the points of the face that catch the sun, such as the T-zone and cheekbones.
Shine on
The crop of new season highlighters is better than ever! From shimmering creams to glossy sticks, just pick the one that works for you. The Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter (Dh180) gets our vote for the dreamiest finish that is easy to blend. Highlight the length of your cheeks and your chin. Don't forget to blot away the excess shine to avoid treading down sweaty territories.
The super base
Foundations can be tricky during summers. If you're going to invest in one this season, we'd recommend an illuminating base with some sun coverage, such as Shiseido's Radiant Lifting Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 17 (Dh272) which is, equal measures, pretty and protective.
The golden wand
The greatest crime in bronzer application is picking a shade that is totally wrong for you. Always remember that you're picking a colour that mimics your real skin tone. Any more or any less will end up in beauty blasphemy. The weather demands powder-based products, so pick the perfect texture for your skin's needs. If you're looking for an evening-ready glow, then opt for more shimmering bronzers rather than the matte finish you would normally wear during the day. Either way, you'll get every penny's worth from your pot of gold. Complete the look with coral hints of blush.
The finishing touches
Even though nude lips dictated trends over the last few seasons, thanks to the Kardashian clan, we saw an unexpected return of a 90s-favourite beauty staple: the lip gloss. From clear glosses to peachy pink alternatives, the gloss is the perfect way to pucker up this summer. We're loving the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme (Dh138) that also doubles as a lip balm to keep the summer cracks at bay.
