At the end of July, Boeing’s order book was already stuffed with 700 orders.

In August, Airbus recorded 114 orders for its A320neo and A350-100 aircraft, surpassing the level of 8,600 orders overall for the A320 series, a single aisle, twin-engine plane.

Airbus, a division of European aerospace giant EADS, also delivered 38 aircraft to clients last month, including one A380 super jumbo jet and the first of its wide bodied A330-200F planes.

Since the beginning of 2012, Airbus has delivered 364 aircraft to 74 clients, it said.

Of the total, 14 were A380 super jumbo jets, the world’s biggest passenger airliner.

The biggest single order overall last month was from Philippine Airlines, which put in for 44 A321 planes and 10 A330-300 aircraft, which are slightly longer than the A330-200 series.

On August 30, the state-owned Chinese bank ICBC signed a contract to buy 50 Airbus planes for $3.5 billion.

On Tuesday, Airbus raised its long-term forecast for global aircraft production, citing strong demand for domestic passenger traffic in Asia, despite the unclear economic outlook.

Airbus, predicted that about 28,200 passenger and cargo aircraft would be sold for a total of almost $4.0 trillion (3.2 trillion euros) between 2012 and 2031.
