The New Zealand Transport Agency, in a dramatic freeze-frame video, has urged people to drive within speed limits or face serious consequences.

The video, which is just over a minute long, was posted on YouTube two days ago and has already got 1.4 million likes.

The ad opens with two cars converging near a T-point. One car, with just the driver inside, is speeding along the straight road, while the other car, with a boy in the back seat, is at the T junction and is about to get on the main road.

The boy’s father stops at the T junction, looks left and right, and despite seeing a fast approaching car decides to get on to the main road. This is when time stops and both drivers walk out of their cars and talk. The little boy remains inside the car.

The father: Mate, I am so sorry. I thought there was time.
Second man: You just pulled out. I don't have time to stop.
The father: C'mon mate. It was a simple mistake.
Second man: I don't know... maybe if I was going a little bit slower.
The father: Please. I've got my boy in the back.
The second man looks at the boy and says: I am going too fast... I am sorry.

Both men then get inside their cars. A shot of the speedometer shows the car is doing over 100 kmph, which is when it dawns upon the viewer that the vehicles never really stopped.

Time resumes the next instant and the two cars collide.
