Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan on the occasion of Pakistan's 81st National Day, Press Trust of India reported on Tuesday.

In the letter - circulating on social media - Modi extended greetings to people of the country on the occasion of Pakistan Day, people familiar with the development told PTI.
"As a neighbouring country, India desires cordial relations with the people of Pakistan," Modi wrote. "For this, an environment of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is imperative."
The Indian premier also conveyed wishes to Imran and the Pakistani people for dealing with the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, terming it a "difficult time for humanity".
"Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration," the message concluded.
Sources said it was a routine letter sent every year.
Pakistan celebrates March 23 as Pakistan Resolution Day.
Earlier on Saturday, Modi conveyed his best wishes to Khan for a speedy recovery from coronavirus. Khan and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19, days after taking the coronavirus vaccine.
