With a 17.5 million strong diaspora, India is the leading country of origin when it comes to international migrants, according to a 2019 estimate released by the UN, and it would hardly come as a surprise to find an Indian flag being waved by a patriotic Indian expatriate abroad during various events.
One particular incident concerning the Indian tri-colour has gone viral on social media. During the mob violence by US President Donald Trump’s supporters in the US Capitol, a lone Indian flag was seen fluttering amongst a sea of Stars and Stripes. Various photos and videos have emerged online of the Washington DC protests, and in one such photo, a person could be seen hoisting the Indian flag.
While the identity of the flag-bearer is not known, netizens were quick to spot it and share it. The video and photos have now gone viral.
