The agreement was signed by Executive Chairman of Ports Customs and Freezone Corporation (PCFC) Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and Vice-President of Zayed University Dr Hanif Al Qassimi at Emirates Towers. The mission of the ICC is to provide specialised services in the areas of education, training, professional development, research and consultancy services to Customs administrators in the UAE, AGCC and the surrounding regions.

On the occasion, Sulayem said: “The idea of partnership with Zayed University is central to the future development of Dubai Customs and Customs administration in the region. Customs organisations must address significant challenges if they are to play an appropriate regulatory role at the same time as helping to facilitate trade.”

Dr Qassimi indicated the agreement seeks for exchanging experiences between two parties, enhancing customs services in the UAE and Gulf region.

The university’s centre, according to Dr Qassimi, will offer its latest services by developing the skills of Dubai Customs’ human resources and their performances, as well as providing the best technological programmes and consultations. The agreement also comes as part of the university’s vision in extending its relations with different public and private sectors through its international expertise, faculty members, and specialised centres.

Jennifer McGlennon, Director of the Centre for Business Excellence (CBEX), said: “Through the agreement, the centre will offer courses in specialised programmes in the Executive MBA that Dubai International Customs Centre will provide after its establishment using case studies and research assignments in the Customs context. A Graduate Diploma in Customs is also proposed.

The centre will be jointly managed by the two parties and promoted as a customs centre for excellence for the UAE and the region. It will work in collaboration with Dubai Customs to design, develop and deliver a comprehensive programme of training, education and development of customs and professional development of customs staff and other stakeholders.
