Youth arrested
for alleged rape

DUBAI — The Dubai Police have arrested a 20-year-old UAE national who allegedly raped an Ethiopian housemaid.

The 21-year-old housemaid’s cousin reported to the Dubai Police last week that her relative, who recently arrived from Ethiopia, was raped by the son of her sponsor on the same day she arrived in Dubai .

The housemaid’s cousin said that the suspect’s father had threatened the housemaid and other servants against complaining to the police and his brothers offered her money.

“But we decided to file a complaint. She came here from her village with a lot of dreams to help her poor family after paying money to the agency. All her dreams are shattered now and we have to preserve her rights,” said the cousin of the accused.

Following her complaint, the CID brought the girl to Qusais Police Station where the victim lodged a complaint. The police official has issued a circular to arrest the suspect who fled home. Three days later, the suspect’s brothers brought him to the police station. — amira@khaleejtimes.com
