The event is being held to coincide with the World Guiding Day designated on February 21 by the World Federation of Tour Guide Associations (WFTGA).

Professor Sam H Ham, Director of the University of Idaho’s Centre for International Training and Outreach, will explore the power of interpretation on the visitor experience during the interactive session at the mosque.

He will use the guided tour of the mosque as a case study and provide guidance and suggestions on interpretive best practice.

Guides will gain valuable feedback on the nuances which can make the tour experience more valuable and then apply these new skills in developing their commentaries, according to Nasser Al Reyami, Director Tourism Standards, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).

Prof Ham’s tour guiding and interpretation programmes have been adopted in more than 40 countries. He will be in the UAE as part of a campaign to mark International Guiding Day 2009.

Hosted by the ADTA for the UAE Forum of Tourist Guides, Prof Ham will conduct a series of seminars and workshops aimed at exploring the role of guides and interpreters.
