Registration for OWWA membership costs only Dh92 for two-year duration.

The call came yesterday from Marilyn R. Vail, Welfare Officer, who emphasised that a registered Filipino worker gains numerous benefits, and loses nothing, for himself and his family back home.

Undocumented Filipino workers are those who arrive in the country on visit visa and gain employment during their two-month stay, but remain unregistered with the Philippine embassy.

Once registered, Filipino workers are entitled to P100,000 (Dh10,000) life insurance coverage, P200,000 (Dh20,000) accident insurance coverage, and P20,000 (Dh2,000) funeral or burial coverage.

Wives and children of OWWA members can avail of any scholarship programme launched by the Philippine government for all dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) back home. These include skills improvement, language proficiency and technical studies.

Livelihood programme is also part of the package where families left behind by the Filipino workers can engage in any livelihood business to augment the family income.

Welfare Officer Vail said that an OWWA member can also avail of government funds for repatriation in case of death at the worksite or in case of war in the host country that poses risk to the life of the Filipino worker. To register as OWWA member, undocumented Filipino workers are advised to furnish a copy of their employment contract and passport to the POLO-OWWA, or visit the POLO-OWWA at Villa 2, 3rd Street, Al Wuheida Area near Abu Hail Road, Dubai or call 04-2667745.
