One of the boat workers suffered minor injuries on his hand and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The fire broke out at 8am and soon spread all over because of the presence of plastic, nylon, textiles and toys, all inflammable material brought from Iran.

Civil Defence forces rushed to the site to extinguish the fire, but the boat sank before they arrived.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire could have been caused by a spark ignited by the injured worker, a civil defence official said, adding that the boat was owned by a transport company.

Later, a civil defence team brought the boat up for further investigations.
