The gang was trying to sell the woman, who was held in captivity and forced into prostitution, for Dh4,000, the police said. The suspects, Mohammed Subhan, Mohammed Qamer, Nizam Mohammed and Haroon Abu Al Busharat, were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution on Sunday on the charges of human trafficking.

The gang of four had allegedly exploited a number of women who were brought to the UAE and some women who had run away from their sponsors.

On November 22, Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received a tip-off that the men were keeping a woman in captivity and trying to sell her for Dh4,000.

The CID officials laid a trap and an undercover agent struck a deal with a gang member to meet him in a hotel in Naif area and “buy” the woman.

Around 10pm the same day, the four came to the hotel in Naif and asked the undercover agent to hand over the money, but the cop asked them to bring the woman to him first. One of the gang members left the hotel and brought the woman to the hotel after a while.

As soon as they received the money, the police arrested the Bangladeshis. The police also seized a large quantity of money on raiding their room in Al Nakheel area.

During police interrogation, the Bangladeshi woman said the gang members had promised her a job in a company. After she arrived in Dubai International Airport, the gang imprisoned her in their room and forced her into prostitution.

The gang members confessed that they had brought many women to the UAE and forced them into prostitution and sold them to others.

Colonel Khalil Ibrahim, Deputy Director of the CID, said as per the instruction of Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, they are paying special attention to prevent human trafficking which plagues many countries.
