Tragedy struck a newly married couple on their honeymoon when the wife fell into a 25 feet gorge while taking selfies with her husband in Nainital. Tamanna and Shadab came to Nainital from Delhi for honeymoon and were clicking selfies standing on a parapet along the road. Tamanna allegedly lost balance when she saw a snake and panicked.
"Tamanna died within minutes of reaching the hospital in Nainital. After carrying out the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to her father Mohammad Shabbir who reached here in the morning" said Pramod Pathak, station officer, Tallital police station.
Tammana married 30-year-old Shadab in November and the couple reached Nainital on Sunday. They hired a cab next day to go sightseeing and while returning from Bhowali, 11 km from Nainital, Tammana asked the cab driver to halt as she was feeling nauseated.
According to reports in the Hindustan Times, the taxi driver Kishan Singh told the police that the couple got off the car and sat on the parapet on one side of the road. He added that he was inside the cab and soon heard shouting and crying.
Singh reportedly told police that the woman panicked when she saw a snake and slipped into the deep gorge just behind the parapet.
The woman was rescued and taken to a hospital but she died of serious injuries during treatment.
However, Tamanna's brother Arif has filed a complaint alleging foul play and claimed Shadab, who works as an Ayurveda practitioner at a private hospital in Noida, was behind the accident.
Three such incidents have been reported during the last month in Uttarakhand.
