The four-member gang that consisted of three Indian men and a Filipina woman conducted its illegal activity from a licensed stationaryshop in Al Rolla area of the emirate.

The forged documents recovered from them included health cards, driving licences, labour cards and a number of other certificates that are commonly furnished to government authorities to obtain jobs and services.

The police official said the gangwas charging Dh40-200 for forgingdocuments.

“The female suspect who worked at the stationary shop would receive photographs and the necessary personal information of customers from the three Indian suspects. While she carried out the printing process, it was the men’s role to contact potential clients and see whether they needed any documents to be forged,” the police official said while explaining their modus operandi.

The information initially gathered by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police made them suspicious of the gang’s illegal activities.

A team of CID officials was set upto pinpoint the identity of the four suspects, and the exact location of the shop where the forgery was taking place.

The CID team then raided the shop and arrested the female employee of the stationary shop as well asone of the male accomplices who was present at the time.

Police were able to seize all the equipment used to forge thedocuments, in addition to a number of cards and photographs.

The four suspects have all confessed to forging documents.

The case has been transferred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
