WOODY ALLEN’S latest movie, ‘To Rome With Love’ might be getting the worst ever flogging that any of his movies have got. But that does not seem to have affected his standing with either his leading ladies or other smart women in the movie industry. Last month Hollywood’s grapevine was all abuzz about a rendezvous between Allen and the 25 –year-old Lindsay Lohan, known to be quite the wild child, weaving in and out of rehab for substance abuse.

The young woman who is just now busy with new television movie Liz& Dick, where she plays Elizabeth Taylor, was spotted leaving celeb hang-out restaurant, Philippe on the Upper East Side, with the director who is five decades older to her. It was apparently a casual dinner between friends but the media went to town nevertheless, knowing his penchant for young, attractive women.

Young women and his dalliances with his stars have been a big thing with Allen. Maybe it is the older man younger women eternal connection. They need his intelligence and the doors he can open for them in a fiercely competitive industry, while he needs them not just in his films but also to make him feel younger.

The list of nubile nymphets who have populated his films and indeed, his life, are many including the very talented Diane Keaton to former wife Mia Farrow, Rachel McAdams, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson.

‘To Rome With Love’, which is receiving a drubbing from the critics has Cruz, who walked away with the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in his 2008 movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Greta Gerwig who has been very public about her infatuation with Allen. The presence of both his muses seem to have done little for Allen’s film though. We can’t say what the effect working with both of them had on the aging Allen who has already announced that his next film will be based in New York. Was he whetting Lilo for a role in the next movie? Only time will tell.

But the director actor who has made a hugely successful career by telling intriguing stories of the human relationships, is not about to give up his all-man image. “It’s no fun not playing the guy who gets the girl,” he said recently.

“You can imagine how frustrating it is when I do these movies with Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Watts, and the other guys get them. And I’m the director. I’m the, you know, that old guy over there is the director. “I don’t like that. I like being the one that sits across from them in the restaurant and looks in their eyes and lies to them,” he added.

Lilo should realize it is not just her talent that brought the old man to the restaurant and had him courteously opening the door for her. She was actually supporting a very fragile male ego there…..
