What are social workers for?

Recently, the Research & Development Committee of the Dubai Educational Zone Department conducted a study about social workers in schools. To everyone's shock, the study revealed that social workers are often assigned jobs unrelated to their credentials, such as monitoring the canteen, substituting for teachers on leave and representing the schools at banks.

This revelation is shocking, particularly in the context of the overall deterioration in the standards of decency and decorum in our schools. When reports of students carrying weapons to schools, and exchanging naughty video clips, messages and pornographic content appear, social workers who are expected to tackle such issues are assigned inconsequential jobs! This is shocking and requires urgent attention from the authorities.

Social workers and student-counsellors must be put to good use, so that we will reduce with their help the number of drop-outs, bunking classes, and undesirable tendencies among the young ones.
