"The two-phase project is part of a massive plan for upgrading Sharjah roads network recently announced by the government in the emirate,'' she said.

She explained that improvement works on Wasit Road are scheduled to be carried out soon hopefully before the end of this year in order to ease traffic movement. The project will be completed in two phases. The first phase includes expansion of the lanes. Adding one more lane will result in three lanes in both directions. This first phase will be executed at a cost of Dh 25 million. It will start from the bridge at the Wasit Power Station linking it to the bridge connecting to the Halwan suburb. The total length of the road expansion is 2.7 kilometers, and includes adding a flyover near the new Traffic Police building in Al Ramtha.

The second phase will feature addition of one more lane to the existing two lanes from the Shaikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi Roundabout until the Industrial Area No 2 Roundabout, and it will also expand the Ali Bin Ahmad Al Abdouli Roundabout upto a length of 6.1 km.

Al Noman also revealed that a flyover will be constructed in the road to help in easing traffic movement. "All Roundabouts in wasit road will be removed once the construction starts," she noted.
