The first defendant, 33, who owns a company, was awarded 10 years in jail, followed by deportation, by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance on June 8.

He was accused of complicity in the heist at Graff Jewellery Shop in Wafi City, which tool place on April 15, 2007.

The Criminal Court of First Instance handed the jail term to the first defendant as it found him guilty of planning the heist, together with the other suspects, while in Belgrade.

The Criminal Court of First Instance had acquitted the second accomplice, a visitor in his fifties, of the charges of involvement in the crime.

The Dubai Public Prosecution appealed against the verdict. Both the accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Four other suspects in the case are still at large.
