VP issues law to set up foundation

DUBAI - His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a law setting up Dubai Cares Foundation as an independent and non-governmental organisation.

As per this law, the foundation will generate fund and donations in and outside Dubai Emirate to achieve the very objectives it was established.

The foundation is set to provide aid to the needy worldwide, empower civil communities, particularly women and children in line with strategy to alleviate poverty and protect human dignity worldwide.

The foundation will have a board composed of a chairman and members not less than five. They will be appointed by a decree from Dubai Ruler.

The foundation will be run by a director to be appointed by the board chairman.

It will set up branches in any country to achieve its objectives and establish direct contacts with different authorities and institutions. According to the law issued by Shaikh Mohammed, financial sources of the foundation will be from donations and gifts offered to the foundation and accepted by it, as well as investment revenues of the foundation funds. It will have administrative and technical executive compose of employees and managers.

Shaikh Mohammed also issued a decree naming board of directors of the Dubai Cares Foundation.

According to the decree, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi shall be appointed as the board’s chairperson and Dr Mariam Mohammed Matar as deputy chairperson. Other board members include Ahmed Abdul Wahid bin Shabib, Fahd Abdul Aziz Al Banai, Huraiz Al Mur bin Huraiz, Mohammed Amein Al Amadi, Hala Yousif Badri, Jameelah Salem Al Muhairi and Fred Sakaray.

The law and decree shall be effective from the date of publishing in the official gazette.
