In a letter procured by Khaleej Times, Buxani has asked the Chief Election Commissioner of India to grant them voting rights since they do not hold dual citizenship with any other country.

'I have been living in Dubai for 46 years and am an Indian citizen. I believe I have an inherent right to vote as I am not holding any other citizenship and do not exercise franchise in any other country,' he writes. 'Many Indian citizens living oversees think that they have no voting rights in India. The truth is that Indians living oversees are not being facilitated to vote. This I believe is an unconstitutional discrimination and an inadvertent slip.'
