Dr Mohammed Batee Al Shamsi was delivering the lecture on the Federal National Council (FNC) elections at the Ajman University of Science and Technology on Thursday.

Dr Al Shamsi explained the importance of each person voting for the candidate he/she prefers with no interference from families or close friends. “If you believe that the person you will choose will be highly responsible to handle his duties, even if not from the family, then please do make the right decision, because it’s a national matter and we all want the best for our country,” he said.

It is very important to note that each person has the right to inform the Election Commission if a candidate is not qualified to perform the role he/she would have to take if elected. The National Identity Cards are the better and easier identification document to vote for the FNC elections, said Al Shamsi, “Producing the identity card as a mandatory identification document for voting avoids corruption or scams, and saves a lot of time during the process.” The estimated time for a voter to cast his/her ballot at any of the NEC voting centres, which accommodates 5,000 to 10,000 people a day is seven minutes. “The NEC stations are expected to be very busy during the elections on September 24, but you must participate in this significant moment of your country’s history.”
