Video footage proves nemesis for car thief

FUJAIRAH — The Fujairah thief who used to break open car windows and decamp with cash, has been nabbed.

Fujairah Police managed to arrest the 34-year-old A.M.M, an Arab national, with help from footage of cameras installed on the streets. The police have recovered Dh300,000 from him. The accused, who worked as a mechanic, used to steal money from parked vehicles in the cities of Fujairah and Kalbaa.

Fujairah Police had set a trap for the accused after a spate of complaints of thefts from cars.

During his interrogation, the accused admitted to his crime. He told the police that he used to keep tabs on bank clients and on getting an opportunity, he used to lift the money from the cars.

A Fujairah Police source confirmed that after receiving a plethora of complaints, they had installed cameras in front of banks and money exchange centres.

The police source added that the last victim of the accused was one R.S.A, who had parked his car in front of a company premises in Kalba. The accused stole Dh30,000 from his car.

The police, meanwhile, were reviewing the footage from the cameras and succeeded in identifying the thief.

The police have referred the case to the Public Prosecution.
