A cow in Haveri, Karnataka, frantically followed its injured calf being taken to a hospital in a goods vehicle. In a video posted on The Times of India website, the mother cow is seen running alongside the vehicle on a busy road as other vehicles zoom past.
The incident took place on January 25 when veterinary hospital workers were taking the two-month old calf which had injured itself and collapsed after the wounds became infected. As soon as the unconscious calf was laid in the vehicle, the stray mother cow stood right next to the calf and followed it right till the hospital, which was half-a-km away from Jayaprakash Narayan Circle.
Not only that, the cow stayed outside the hospital all the time as the calf had to be hospitalised. "We shifted the calf in a goods vehicle to the veterinary hospital. Our vehicle started from JP Circle to veterinary hospital, and the mother chased it," Abdul Khadar, a local resident said.
Dr Sannakki, chief veterinary officer, said that the calf was brought to the hospital in a serious condition. "It has recovered now. During the two days, the mother never left the hospital and stayed near the calf licking its wounds," he said. The calf was discharged on Sunday.
