US varsity delegation visits UoS

SHARJAH — A high-ranking delegation from George Washington University led by Professor Carol Segerman, Vice-President of the university for postgraduate studies, yesterday visited the University of Sharjah (UoS).

The delegation was received by Professor Muammar Bultayyibm, Adviser to the University of Sharjah and President for postgraduate studies and scientific research.

The meeting was attended by Dr Bu Allam Bu Ayyash, dean of the faculty of engineering; Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, dean of the faculty of business administration; and Dr Wael Mirza, Director of the University president's office.

The two sides exchanged views on ways of cooperation in the field of academic and scientific research between the two universities.

Online learning

DUBAI — Dubai American Academy (DAA) has started a new online learning programme through Virtual High School. The move is aimed at expanding the 21st century learning skills of students, offering them access to over 200 online courses to obtain credits, to get ahead or simply to learn about a subject that interests them.

The new programme is made possible by a partnership with Virtual High School (www.goVHS.org), the pioneer of online learning for high school students and online course design and instruction for teachers.

Starting with the 2006-07 school year, DAA will be supplementing their physical course offerings with rigorous VHS Net Courses.

Founded in 1996, Virtual High School is a non-profit collaboration of high schools, teachers and students consisting of over 6,000 enrolled students, 324 member schools and 204 teachers in 27 states and 24 countries.

New premises

DUBAI — The Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department last week started moving to its new premises in Al Mamzar area.

Saeed Khamees Al Rahoumi, Assistant Director-General of Administration Affairs, said the DICD currently moved only the offices of the Director General, Deputy Director-General, Family Guidance Section and Public Relations Section, but the offices of other sections will be shifted later this month.

He said that the new premises would contribute to facilitating the public services and reaching its goal of quality services in preaching and religious and social guidance.

Blood donation

DUBAI — The Sultan Investments Group will hold a blood donation drive in association with Al Wasl Hospital at Sarco Building, Airport Road today and tomorrow.
