Urdu mushaira on August 11

DUBAI — Leading poets from Pakistan will participate along with local and Gulf-based poets in an international Urdu mushaira (poetry evening) in Dubai at the Khartoum Hall of the Sudanese Club on August 11, to celebrate Pakistan’s 58th Independence day on August 14.

Parvaiz Shaikh, President of the Dubai branch of the Lahore headquartered literary organisation, World Writers’ Forum said that the mushaira will be attended by poets from Pakistan, UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

He said the poets include Amjad Aslam Amjad, Syed Khalid Yazdani and Farhat Abbas from Lahore, Azam Behzad and Khalid Mahmood Khalid from Karachi, Fartash Syed from Doha, Ather Nafees Abbasi from Saudi Arabia, Zahoorul Islam Javaid, Sahertab Romani, Misdaaq Lakhani, Saghir Jafri, Shafeeq Saleemi, Shahzaman Kauser, Talib Naqvi, Tasneem Abidi, Farzana Sahab Mirza, Sadia Roshan, Sabiha Saba, Yaqoob Tasawwur, Dr Sarwat Zahra, Talib Hussain Shah and Mohammed Abdul Qudoos from the UAE, among others.

Asghar Saudai, an active participant in the Pakistan movement who invented the popular slogan on Pakistan in Urdu language Pakistan ka Matlab kia-La Illaha Illallah will be honoured. In addition, mementos will also be presented to selected UAE-based Pakistanis for their lifetime achievements in their respective fields of specialisations, Shaikh said. Air Marshal (Retired) Syed Qaiser Hussain, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, will be the chief guest.
