The British Safety Council, which opened its first international operation at the British Consulate in Dubai yesterday, launched a free initiative to train and certify workers from local companies.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Michael Cox-Hill, GM of British Safety Council, Dubai, said, "We plan to approach local organisations across different sectors including construction and oil and petroleum companies like ENOC and even Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to train its Level I staff. We will fund this project and hope to establish a long-term relationship with these companies." With the level of construction activity in Dubai, Hill said the Council is looking at actively promoting safety issues and will be heavily involved with developers and contractors in the long run.
