The UAE’s participation in the Summit is based on its interest in enhancing and expanding its partnerships with the African Union member states as well as in realising common interests and opening up new venues for economic, trade and investment relations, Minister of State Ibrahim Al Hashemi, who led the UAE’s delegation to the Summit, said.

Al Hashemi also led the UAE’s delegation to the Donors’ Conference on Mali, co-organised in the Ethiopian capital by the AU and the United Nations.

In her intervention at the conference, the minister emphasised the UAE’s respect to the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Mali and called for respecting international resolutions and for working towards rejecting extremism and eliminating terrorism in the African country.

She expressed the UAE’s solidarity with the Malian government in these difficult circumstances.

The UAE joined the African Union as observer member in March 2011.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the minister met presidents, vice-presidents and foreign ministers.

The UAE’s delegation to the two meetings included Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed Al Hedan, Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Dr. Yousuf Eissa Hasan Al Saberi
